LOVE this idea!! I adore my slow cooker but it never seems to get used in the Summertime. How great that you just ‘set and forget’ - then have time to do fun family stuff during the day and feast away the evening. Awesome tip. I’m also all over the community cocktail fun. That is my kind of camping!

I love using my slow cooker, that is if you are staying in a state park or a place where you actually have electricity (this is how my family loves to camp) One of the easiest, and a real crowd pleaser for those camping pot lucks, is Dr. Pepper pulled pork.
3-4 lb pork roast
1 bottle of your favorite brand of BBQ sauce
1 can of Dr. Pepper
6-8 Buns or rolls for pot luck type event
1.Dump roast, bbq sauce and Dr. Pepper in slow cooker, turn cooker to high and let it go for 8 hours (I usually start it in the morning and then it is ready to go for later).
2. Pull pork out after 8 hours and using two forks shred pork and then put it back in cooker to soak up the sauce. Then serve in crock pot, and divide on the buns as needed.
** Also, we go camping with a HUGE group and we usually do a cocktail and appetizer night as well. Everyone brings a cocktail to share and nibbles; and that is our dinner. You get to sample lots of “little” eats and have some drinks (now obviously they aren’t normal size cocktails it is just a taste… but it does lend to a very fun evening… and we usually have alternative drinks for the little ones or those that aren’t drinking). We have been doing this for a couple of years now and it is wildly popular and I would recommend it to others.
